Program: The first project was a new facility that consists of 2 floors and a basement that houses a gymnasium, classrooms, music rooms, and offices. Reminiscent of children's building blocks, the entrance is marked by cascading cubes rendered in primary colors. The elliptical shaped music room allows for focused lessons to occur and an elliptical skylight provides natural light.
The second project was to seismically upgrade the existing high school (constructed over 42 years ago) on the occasion of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. The program features new classrooms and offices and features an open student locker area with crisscrossing trusses under a glass skylight. A new bus drop-off canopy gives protection to children while modernizing the school's main facade.
